Dodgers News: Chase Utley Talks Facing the Phillies on the Road and at Home | VIDEO

The Los Angeles Dodgers began their three-game series against the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday, which was the first time Chase Utley faced his former team since coming to L.A. The Dodgers took the win in a game where Corey Seager notched his 21st homer of the season, and Utley homered as well.

Before the matchup Utley spoke about facing his former team in an interview with TWC SportsNet reporter Kelli Tennant. Utley reminisced about his former Philly days, and what it feels like to go against his former club. Utley also explained how he feels blessed his career has come full circle.

“I’ve been pretty fortunate. I grew up in Long Beach 20 minutes south of here. It’s cool to be back here with friends and family. That’s for sure.”

Utley played 1,551 games with the Phillies from 2003-2015, and was a 6-Time All-Star. When asked about his favorite memory he states it was when he became a World Series Champion in 2008.

Following their series with the Phillies, the Dodgers will play the Pittsburgh Pirates before traveling to Philadelphia to face the Phillies once again in a 3-game series. When asked about what he expects when he goes back, Utley says,

“I think it’ll be cool, the fans there have treated me outstanding. I couldn’t ask for anything better, so obviously we have some games … but it will be exciting once we get there.”

Going in to the series opener, Utley definitely did not let playing against his former teammates psych him out.  He homered on a fly ball to right field in the bottom of the 2nd inning, making the score 6-0, the Dodgers would go on to win 9-4.

Some might think it’s hard to maintain a competitive edge against your old team, but Utley disagrees.

“You gotta let it go. It might be a little weird right at first, but you gotta let it go for sure.”

Utley claims he will play in the major leagues next year, however it is unclear if he will stay with the Dodgers. Utley, alongside Kenley Jansen, will become a free agent and at then of the year. You can check out the full Chase Utley interview below.
