Dodgers News: Chris Capuano Leaves Start Vs. Reds With Groin Injury

When the Dodgers had eight starting pitchers to begin the year, the question was how would all of them be used. Since then, Ted Lilly has been released, Aaron Harang traded and Chad Billingsley hurt, which has left Chris Capuano as the fifth starter.

So far this year, Capuano has had an up-and-down season as he was either lights out (0 ER) or awful (5 ER) for a good month or so. In his last three starts, Capuano has given up six earned runs in 17 innings, but hasn’t won a game since August 3.

Staked to a 2-0 lead in today’s game, Capuano had to leave the game today with a groin injury according to Bill Plunkett of the OC Register:

It’s been quite the day for Dodger injuries as Matt Kemp was shut down indefinitely and now Capuano had to leave the game. Reliever Peter Moylan got one out before Stephen Fife was brought in to pitch a chunk of the game.

Capuano missed three weeks earlier in the year with a calf injury as he’s also undergone two Tommy John surgeries in his career. It’s to be determined how significant the injury is and after Fife pitched 2+ innings, he’s likely the fifth starter going forward.
