Dodgers News: Clayton Kershaw Frustrated After Second Spring Start

Los Angeles Dodgers’ starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw was scheduled to make his second spring training start today, less than a week after struggling in two innings during his spring debut.

Kershaw had mixed results again, throwing two perfect innings before failing to finish the bottom of the third. He failed to find the plate in the inning, walking three batters and allowing hits to two others.

According to Dylan Hernandez of the LA Times, the 25-year-old spoke about his performance and wasn’t pleased:

Physically, I feel great, Kershaw said. I don’t have any excuses. I don’t know. I’m searching for answers right now. I know it’s spring training and it doesn’t matter, but it matters to me. We have to figure it out.

At the end of the day, Kershaw was charged with five runs and pushed his spring ERA to 18.00 in four innings. At one point in the inning, the left-hander threw 10 straight balls and was visibly frustrated on the mound. He allowed three of the runs on his own and was charged with two more after Brandon League allowed a two-run double.

Kershaw went on to add more about how he’s felt so far this spring via Hernandez:

No, not really, he said. I haven’t felt great yet. The first two innings I thought I maybe figured some things out. Maybe I did, but it really doesn’t matter after the third inning.

Most pitchers use the spring to find themselves and work on their pitches, but Kershaw still wants results. The frustration has started to build a bit and with just two more starts before a potential regular season game in Australia, the reigning Cy Young winner will be looking to find his groove. It’s early enough in the spring for Dodger fans to avoid panicking and believe that Kershaw will return to form as the ace.
