Dodgers News: Clayton Kershaw To Get WWE Belt For NL Cy Young

Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw was a runaway winner for the NL Cy Young award yesterday as he received 29 of 30 first place votes. Kershaw won the award over St. Louis Cardinals ace Adam Wainwright and NL Rookie of the Year Jose Fernandez finished third in the voting.

The conversation quickly shifted to where things stood with Kershaw and the Dodgers on a long-term contract after it was reported on two occasions during the season that a deal was close. Reports leaked that the Dodgers offered their 25-year-old ace $210 million over eight years and most recently $300 million for a lifetime contract.

Obviously not wanting to talk about the subject, Kershaw said talks weren’t ongoing at the moment and that he was focused on playing out his contract next season. However, it sounds like Kershaw and AL Cy Young award winner Max Scherzer are getting some more than contract extensions this winter: WWE Championship belts.

The MLB Twitter account and WWE President Vince McMahon both tweeted out a picture of what the two Cy Young Award winners will receive for their accomplishments this season:

Kershaw’s Cy Young win is his second in the last three years and he and the Dodgers are likely to pick up contract talks sometime this winter as they hope to lock him up for the foreseeable future.
