Dodgers News: Clayton Kershaw Will NOT Require Surgery

After it was announced on Thursday morning that Los Angeles Dodgers star pitcher Clayton Kershaw will be going on the 15-day DL for a lower back issue, Dodgers fans everywhere have been holding their breathes all day. But, it was recently announced that the injury the Dodgers ace sustained will not require surgery.

This will come as a great relief as Kershaw missing any significant amount of time might have been a death sentence for the Dodgers, who already have an inconsistent and unproven rotation. Kershaw was sent home early from the Dodgers current road trip to be examined by team doctors after an uncharacteristically poor start against the Pittsburgh Pirates. But the team released a statement on Thursday providing some mild relief for the fans.

While your teams ace going down is never a good thing and the timing can never be ideal, with the All-Star Game coming up in a couple weeks, the Dodgers players will have some extra rest. So, it may stand to reason that if Kershaw ever had to get injured, right before the All-Star break would be the best time. Only time will tell how the team responds to their top dog going down though. It may be a galvanizing force as over the next couple weeks the team is sure to hear many pundits and members of the media from around the league read them their last rites. This also may finally force the front office to go out and make a big name acquisition.

After Injury to Clayton Kershaw, the Front Office Needs to Act

While there is no timetable for his return yet, it will be very reassuring for the organization as well as the fans that the injury isn’t serious enough to require surgery. Kershaw has never been seriously injured at any point in his career and he’s proved time and time again that he carry a major workload so hopefully this will be a small road bump on an otherwise historically good season.

The Dodgers begin their three game series with the Colorado Rockies on Friday with new addition Bud Norris set to make his first appearance for the team. First pitch is set for 7:10 PM PST at Dodgers Stadium.
