Dodgers News: Club Wants Yasiel Puig to Shed Some Weight

Los Angeles Dodgers right-fielder, Yasiel Puig, has had many problems with his time in the U.S. and he has added more baggage.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Monday that the club would want Puig to lose some weight but did not specify how much they would like him to lose.

As reported by Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register, “With Yasiel, there is so much natural strength, it’s more trying to focus on leaning out a little bit,” said Roberts. Puig was listed at 240 pounds in the 2016 season.

It’s Time for L.A. to Catch the Elusive Championship

Puig, 25, hit .263/.323/.740 last season with 11 home runs and 45 RBIs. In early June, he was sent to Rancho Cucamonga for a rehab assignment and in August, he was optioned to Oklahoma City. He also goes another year without hitting a home run in the postseason.

In the last two seasons, Puig has not demonstrated the top caliber performance that he did in 2014 when he was an All-Star.

There have been trade rumors about Puig being on the market, however, Roberts stated that he will be expecting Puig to be a part of the team next year.

According to Roberts, Puig will begin his weight loss journey with trainers starting in January. Hopefully Dodger fans will see a new and improved Yasiel Puig in 2017.

  1. Seen this story before.  And not just with Puig.  This was a constant issue with Pablo Sandoval as well while he was with the Giants.  I think it is definitely time for the Dodgers to move on and trade Puig for either a RHB in the OF or 2B.  Just move on.
