Dodgers News: Seager Has Kind Gesture After Promotion

The Los Angeles Dodgers made it clear that they would not be dealing any of their top prospects and they held true to their word as the non-waiver trade deadline passed without activity from the Dodgers.

As the Dodgers have made an effort to once again develop their farm system, three prospects have largely stood above the rest — Joc Pederson, Corey Seager and Julio Urias. The organization’s faith in them is so strong, they refrained from trading for Jon Lester or David Price.

Pederson is in his first season with Triple-A Albuquerque, Seager has now joined Double-A Chattanooga and Urias is slowly being brought along in Single-A Rancho Cucamonga. Seager, who is the brother of Seattle Mariners All-Star third baseman Kyle Seager, was with the Quakes up until the All-Star break.

Corey responded to his promotion in a classy manner, via ESPN’s Beto Duran:

The 18th overall pick in the 2012 amateur draft has been regarded as a great clubhouse presence and a good teammate to.

Seager played 80 games with the Quakes this season after spending 27 with them in 2013. During his time there in 2014, he led the Cal League in doubles, total bases, slugging percentage, extra-base hits and OPS.

The shortstop also excelled against southpaw pitchers, which is typically a problem for most young left-handed hitters. During May, in which Seager was named Cal League Player of the Month, he had a .400 batting average, six home runs and 11 doubles against lefties in 81 plate appearances.

Through eight games with the Lookouts, Seager has a .290 batting average to go along with six runs and three doubles. While he was drafted as a shortstop, Seager’s size may result in him transitioning to third base upon reaching the Majors.

  1. Really glad the Dodgers didn’t give up the farm for Price or Lester. Although I’d be happy if one of them signed with the Dodgers as a free agent.
