Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Corey Seager took part in the 2016 T-Mobile Home Run Derby as All-Star Week got underway. He faced off against the MLB leader in home runs, Baltimore Orioles Mark Trumbo, in the First Round.

Seager’s father pitched to Seager as he took part in his son’s first ever home run derby.

Seager is the 9th rookie to participate in the HR Derby. He is also the Dodgers leader in home runs with 17.

Seager didn’t even use his timeout as he powered all the way through and hit 15 home runs. Seager’s longest home run recorded 454ft. With 30 seconds bonus time, Seager smashed his 15th home run at the buzzer.

Trumbo was up next and put on a show. He hit 8 home runs in a row and with 14 seconds left he hit his 16th home run to edge out the rookie 16-15.

Trumbo’s longest home run reached 479ft. Despite getting knocked out of the first round Seager made Dodgers Nation proud by representing the Dodgers well.

After the Derby Seager spoke about what it was like to compete on that stage.

Seager will participate in the All-Star game on Tuesday serving as a NL reserve. The All-Star game will be shown on FOX with coverage starting at 5PM PT. Teammate Kenley Jansen will also be participating in the midsummer classic.
