Dodgers News: Dan Haren Contract Finalized, Ned Colletti Talks Deal

Los Angeles Dodgers v Minnesota TwinsThe Los Angeles Dodgers reportedly reached agreement with free agent starter Dan Haren on a one-year deal last night worth $10 million. Haren pitched last season with the Washington Nationals and while he struggled in the first half, he went 6-4 with a 3.52 ERA after the All-Star break.

This afternoon, Haren and the Dodgers finalized the deal and Dodgers GM Ned Colletti talked about what the 33-year-old right hander brings to the table next season via an official press release:

Dan brings experience as a winner to our club and rotation, said Colletti. He has made 30 or more starts for nine straight seasons and has won 10 or more games for nine straight as well. Last year, his second half was among the best in the National League.

The Southern California native will receive $10 million with an additional $3 million if he hits incentives in his contract. Per Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com, Haren gets that money if he reaches 150 innings pitched and 24 starts made this season.

However, Haren also has a player option that vests if he reaches 180 innings for an additional $10 million in 2015 and the same set of $3 million incentives. All together, the Dodgers could be looking at paying Haren $26 million over the next two years if he stays healthy throughout the 2014 season.

Colletti also said the team isn’t opposed to adding another starting pitcher via free agency as they’re likely waiting for MLB and Nippon Professional Baseball to reach agreement about a posting system. The move also brings the Dodgers to 35 players on their 40-man roster as the Winter Meetings begin in exactly two weeks.
