Dodgers News: Darrin Erstad Withdraws From Manager Search

In case we hadn’t had enough updates regarding the Los Angeles Dodgers’ search for a manager to replace Don Mattingly, the later hours of Friday night had to provide more news. Darrin Erstad, who had reportedly made it to the second round of interviews, has pulled his name from consideration.

Erstad, always seen as a dark horse in this race, cited his desire to continue managing the University of Nebraska baseball team.

Erstad definitely has a future managing in the major leagues, given how well he must have impressed Andrew Friedman and the rest of the Dodgers’ front office. He also made an imprint on those around him late in his career as a mentor to the youth around him right before he retired.

From the Dodgers’ perspective, the search for a new manager is definitely starting to take shape. By no means am I saying a choice will be made this weekend or shortly thereafter, but it is interesting to see what the front office might be looking for, based on their choices in this second round.
