Dodgers News: Dodgers’ Andre Ethier, Mattingly Discuss Calf Injury

While the Dodgers got good news this afternoon that Hanley Ramirez will return to the lineup tonight, outfielder Andre Ethier still remains out with tightness in his left calf.

Ethier sustained the injury during the Dodgers series in Chicago after he was hit in the left catch by a pitch and was scratched from the lineup last night too.

Talking to Steve Dilbeck of the LA Times, Ethier talked about the precautions he and the Dodgers were taking:

It kind of got more sore to the touch the last couple of days, so that was just something they were concerned about, Ethier said.I went to see if there was a clot or kind of the same thing Mark [Ellis] had last year, that compartment syndrome. They were kind of concerned along those lines.

Yesterday, Ethier was taken to a hospital to see if there was a blood clot and thankfully there wasn’t as the training staff seems to be taking things cautiously with him.

So far this season, Ethier is hitting .267 with seven home runs and 41 RBIs as the Dodgers are a season high 19 games over .500 and are close to be at 100 percent with Matt Kemp due back by month’s end.

It sounds like Ethier will rest tonight and use the off day tomorrow to get ready for the Dodgers seven-game east coast trip:

All [the tests] came back negative, Mattingly said. It’s just this thing keeps hanging on. He may be ready [Wednesday], maybe not, but [he’ll return] Friday for sure.

Getting Ethier back for the seven-game east coast trip will be nice as the Dodgers will play the entire month of September within the NL West hopefully at full strength.

  1. We dont play the entire month against the NL West like the article says. We have a 3 game set in Cincinatti.
