Dodgers News: Dodgers Reach One-Year Deal With Pitcher Dan Haren

As many were wondering when the Dodgers would make their first move of the off-season, it seems as if the wait is over with the announcement of the signing of a starting pitcher.

The Dodgers had yet to make any news this off-season after the signing of Alexander Guerrero, but they have now made the first notable signing.

According to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, the Dodgers have come to terms with a veteran right-handed starting pitcher:

Haren and the Dodgers’ mutual interest was reported earlier this week and now a deal has been reached. The 33-year-old spent 2013 with the Washington Nationals, going 10-14 with a 4.67 ERA and 151 strikeouts in 30 starts. He’s made at least 30 starts the past three seasons and also has posted double-digit win totals in those seasons.

In his career at Dodger Stadium, Haren is 2-3 with a 3.49 ERA in eight starts. He spent two and a half seasons in the National League West from 2008-2010 with the Arizona Diamondbacks. The 33-year-old is heading into his 12th season in the majors and has a career record of 129-111 with a 3.74 ERA in over 2,000 innings pitched. Haren was born in Southern California and has spent time here from 2010-2012 with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

The Dodgers would likely place Haren behind Clayton Kershaw, Zack Greinke and Hyun-Jin Ryu in their rotation and could be looking to add one more piece before the off-season is over. The team has been linked to Japanese starting pitcher Masahiro Tanaka once he is posted. The MLB and NPB are meeting in New York to try and reach an agreement on a new posting system.
