Dodgers News: Dodgers Recall Five As Rosters Expand To 40

The Dodgers made the a surprising move last night when they acquired Michael Young from the Phillies and today they recalled five players from Triple A Albuquerque.

Sitting with a 10.5 game lead in the NL West, the Dodgers should have chances to rest regular starters Adrian Gonzalez, Hanley Ramirez and other veterans down the stretch to make sure they’re fresh for the playoffs.

The Dodgers Twitter account announced the five players that will join the team:

Except for Butera, the other four players have all had a cup of coffee with the Dodgers at some point this season. Van Slyke has been up and down several times this season as the Dodgers look to lock up a playoff spot in the coming weeks.

Gordon had issues when he was with the Dodgers earlier this month as he wasn’t able to show off his improved defense, but rather has six errors in just 22 games. Speculatively, Gordon will probably be used as a pinch runner as he can steal a base when needed, just not get on base by himself.

Moylan was used early in the year and posted a 6.35 ERA in 10 appearances as he was sent down to make room for Jose Dominguez in late June.

Don Mattingly always loves to tinker with the lineup and with more players at his disposal and the playoffs looming, he could use these five guys down the stretch.
