The first month of the season was not kind at all to Chase Utley.

It looked as though father time had begun to finally catch up to Utley and it knocked him flat on his back. Then May came around and Chase Utley turned to father time and pounded him into the ground.

Utley produced a disastrous .122/.217/.146 slash line over 46 plate appearances in April. He has arguably been the team’s best player in May. His May slash line is a much improved .306/.397/.548.

Utley was a main source of offense once again in Tuesday night’s win over the Cardinals as he went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and this RBI double.

As long as Justin Turner and Joc Pederson are injured, there is an everyday role available for Utley.

I don’t believe Utley is going back to the bench as long as he’s hitting like this. I think Dave Roberts will find a way to keep him in there as much as possible.
