Dodgers News: Dodgers Tie Team Record With Four Home Runs In Game 5

The Dodgers put on a power display this afternoon at Dodger Stadium as Adrian Gonzalez hit two home runs while A.J. Ellis and Carl Crawford both hit a home run apiece.

While the Dodgers hit four home runs in Game 5, they didn’t hit a single home run in the first four games and only combined for seven runs in the four previous NLCS games. However, their power display this afternoon tied a team record according to the Baseball Tonight Twitter account:

Zack Greinke was great in seven innings and settled down nicely after loading the bases with nobody out in the first inning and escaping without allowing a run. Hanley Ramirez continued to tough it out with a fractured rib, but was once again ineffective in three at-bats and was replaced on defense by Nick Punto.

Gonzalez hit a home run in Game 1 of the NLDS, but Crawford’s power surge has been surprising, especially since he only hit six home runs in just 116 games in the regular season. Crawford hit three home runs in the NLDS and with his fourth home run of the playoffs today, all four have come with two strikes.

A.J. Ellis provided the necessary insurance with a solo home run in the eighth inning, which turned out to be his first career postseason home run.

The Dodgers will have their ace Clayton Kershaw on the mound in Game 6, but it was their power bats that helped decide Game 5 and it’ll have to continue in St. Louis on Friday.
