It’s been a wild season for the Dodgers as they hit rock bottom in early June, but responded with an incredible month of July and last night August got off to a great start.
Hanley Ramirez, Matt Kemp and Carl Crawford have all missed extended periods of time, with only Hanley coming back stronger than ever as the other two have struggled.
Andre Ethier has been up and down while recently hitting the cover off the ball and Yasiel Puig was only recalled in early June after all the outfield injuries.
Speaking to Dylan Hernandez of the LA Times, manager Don Mattingly talked about the Dodgers MVP at this point in the season:
Hanley’s been hot, but Adrian’s been there the whole season for us,”Mattingly said. He doesn’t get the same attention because he’s kind of been consistent.
Gonzalez has been the Dodgers most consistent hitter all season as there were concerns that his power was sapped after injuring his shoulder in 2010 and having it surgically repaired.
However, A-Gon has proved everyone wrong this season as he’s hitting .299 with 15 home runs and 66 RBIs, but the most impressive stat is he’s hitting .459 with two outs and RISP.
While Puig and Hanley get the attention for their bat flipping and playful nature, Gonzalez admits he’s just as loud as those two:
If you ask my teammates, I’m not the guy that people portray. I’m always very loud in the dugout. Obviously, the media’s not in the dugout, so they wouldn’t know that. That’s something that has been misinterpreted about me.
Before the season started Gonzalez was a key for the Dodgers success and they’re continuing to ride his wave of consistency with just 55 games left in the season.
