Dodgers News: Don Mattingly Updates Andre Ethier, Hanley Ramirez

The off day between Games 2 and 3 was just what the Dodgers needed as it gave them a chance to regroup and update the statuses of injured starts Andre Ethier and Hanley Ramirez.

Ethier is still not fully recovered from an injured shin while Ramirez is dealing with sore ribs after getting hit in the first inning of Game 1 by Cardinals starter Joe Kelly. After starting Game 1, Ethier was relegated to pinch-hitting duties yesterday as the 13-inning marathon wasn’t ideal. Speaking to Ken Gurnick of Dodgers.com, Don Mattingly discussed what the plan is for Ethier:

Andre is seeing them also, he says he’s better, but we’ll see where this thing goes and if he’s able to go tomorrow also. He’s going to be day to day. Not necessarily a game-time [decision], but we won’t make decision until tomorrow.

In Game 1, Ethier looked limited on defense as he couldn’t make a catch in center field off the bat of Carlos Beltran. Meanwhile, Ramirez was a late scratch yesterday afternoon and the Dodger offense has been MIA through two games.

After putting up 26 runs in four games against the Braves, the Dodgers have scored just two runs in the NLCS and are hitting a dreadful .063 with runners in scoring position.

Hanley said that if Game 3 was today he wouldn’t have played, but is holding out hope he will be in the lineup tomorrow night according to Dylan Hernandez of the LA Times:

While many believe he was hit on purpose, Ramirez and Jerry Hairston Jr. maintained that they didn’t think that was the case, but it’ll be interesting if the Dodgers retaliate in anyway.

The Dodgers aren’t planning on announcing the results of the CT scan that Hanley underwent this afternoon as it sounds like he’s still a game-time decision.

  1. I believe he was hit on purpose!, it didn’t slip out of his hand on a curve ball, it was a fastball thrown right at Hanley!! Hanley’s Hot right now, and hitting Hanley would be a blow to out offense!! and I think the Cardinals no that, and this is what they wanted! Chicken S##t’s !
