Dodgers News: Don Mattingly Updates Contract Status, Feels Wanted

Don-MattinglyIt’s been some time since Los Angeles Dodgers manager Don Mattingly and GM Ned Colletti had one of the more awkward press conferences in recent memory. While it was made known that Mattingly had his option vest after the NLDS victory over the Atlanta Braves, he made it known he didn’t want to return as a “lame duck” manager setting the stage for an awkward 30-45 minutes.

However, he later retracted those comments sand said that he’s willing to honor the remaining year on his contract while he and the Dodgers try and work out a multi-year extension. Talking to David Vassegh on off-season “Dodger Talk” on AM 570 Radio, Mattingly updated where talks stand at the moment:

Well I’m back next year for sure. We’ve had discussions. Everything is going really well, some confusion at the end of the year. You just want to make sure you’re in a place where you’re wanted and the team has confidence in you. Talks have been great.

Mattingly will have a similar looking coaching staff with the only real change being Tim Wallach moving from the third base coaching box to alongside him as bench coach. There are rumblings that the Dodgers were unhappy with some of Mattingly’s in-game management and he came under fire on several occasions in the NLDS and NLCS.

It wouldn’t be surprising if the Dodgers and Mattingly reached agreement on an extension before Spring Training as it sounds like things have been smoothed over on both ends. So far so good for Donnie Baseball this off-season as he recently had a monument built outside his Little League and street named after him in his hometown of Evansville, Indiana and he sounds excited about where things stand with the organization.
