Dodgers News: Erisbel Arruebarrena Placed On DL, Triunfel Recalled

Although the Los Angeles Dodgers have battled back into the race for the National League West title, they’ve still be unable to shake the injury bug that has plagued them for the entirety of the season.

Justin Turner was recently placed on the 15-day disabled list, Hanley Ramirez was on the verge of joining him and Erisbel Arruebarrena will due to a right hip flexor strain and Carlos Triunfel has been recalled, according to Dylan Hernandez of the LA Times:

In 16 at-bats with the Dodgers, Arruebarrena is hitting .313 with two RBIs and six strikeouts. Arruebarrena hit .208 with the Lookouts and .357 with the Isotopes, albeit in 27 less at-bats than what he’s had in Chattanooga.

Arruebarrena first joined the Dodgers from Double-A Chattanooga in May after Juan Uribe strained his hamstring for the second time this season. The young infielder provided a boost to the Dodger defense that had been much-maligned with Ramirez at shortstop.

Arruebarrena’s time with the Dodgers ended just over two weeks later when he was optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque and Miguel Rojas was promoted. Arruebarrena re-joined the Dodgers July 3 and appeared in two games, with one coming as a defensive replacement.

The Dodgers have been fortunate to have infield depth as aside from Adrian Gonzalez, all the starters and key reserves have dealt with some form of injury. Gonzalez was held out of the lineup July 2 due to what manager Don Mattingly called a sore neck, but the first baseman did make a pinch-hit appearance in the eight inning, stayed on to play first in the ninth and hasn’t missed a game since.

Triunfel was claimed off waivers in April and has primarily served as a defensive replacement for the Dodgers.

  1. Why not give Haren a break. He’s the #5 starter on the best staff in baseball. He has a 8-6 record and just came off a 1 hit shutout. I’d say not bad.

  2. He cant hit dont have any other infielder to bring up other than Triunfel. This guy is far from being a major league players.Really dont know why Mattingly would leave Haren in that long to give up 8 runs and expect to win the game.He should have been gone after griving up 5 runs.Stevie Wonder could see that Haren didnt have his control and with a slow fast ball 88-89 you dont have any room for mistake.
