Dodgers News: Executives Vote on Baseball’s Top Prospects

Two names still on the Dodgers’ roster draw a higher response than almost everyone else: Joc Pederson and Corey Seager.

Yes, the Dodgers still employ Clayton Kershaw and Yasiel Puig, whose names grab headlines, but when rumors surface of Pederson and/or Seager being involved in trades (mostly because Kershaw would never be traded), no one draws a more vitriolic response from the fan base.

The talented youth dispersed throughout the organization has become a source of pride amongst executives and fans alike.

So, finding out what rival executives think about said prospects will probably brighten a few fans’ day.

Jonathan Mayo of MLB.com polled executives on both positional and pitching prospects and the results came out as follows.

So, while Byron Buxton might offer a higher ceiling, Seager’s performance upon making his debut was enough to entice these executives even more than Buxton’s upside.

One executive says as such:

“I certainly understand Buxton’s upside, but I’d go with Corey Seager,” a second general manager said. “Rarely do you find a player with both a high floor and high ceiling. He not only has skills and tools, but also great makeup to go along with it.”

It’s hard to argue, if we’re being completely honest — regardless of any bias we might have as Seager is currently the Dodgers’ shortstop.

Then, the conversation shifted towards pitchers, and while Julio Urias has plenty of upside at his age, there are other pitching prospects out there who might seem more appealing in the immediate.

It’s somewhat surprising Urias is even mentioned alongside some of these names, given how major-league ready they by comparison.

Now, that might change as we get closer to spring training and Urias gets the opportunity to show growth, but for right now, garnering any attention in this group is a great place to start.
