Dodgers News: Former Dodgers Pitcher Bob Welch Passes Away at 57
The right-hander spent time with the Dodgers and Oakland Athletics, winning World Series with both teams. Welch posted an impressive record of 27-6 during his Cy Young campaign with the Athletics team of 1990. Welch is the last major league pitcher to have at least 25 wins in a season.
According to Gabe Lacques of USA Today, Billy Beane, the A’s vice president and general manager had some kind words to say about Welch:
Those of us who knew Bob as a teammate and a friend will miss him greatly. My condolences go out to his family.”
Dodgers president Stan Kasten also weighed in on the passing of Welch via Mark Saxon of ESPN LA:

Welch spent 17 years in the majors for two organizations, the Dodgers and Athletics. Welch compiled a record of 211-146 with an ERA of 3.47 in his years with the Dodgers (1978-1987) and Athletics (1988-1994). Welch was part of the Athletics team that won three straight American League pennants, which includes a sweep of the San Francisco Giants in the 1989 World Series.
As a Dodger, Welch had an ERA of 3.14 with a record of 115-86. Welch was selected as an All-Star for the Dodgers in the 1980 season.
Welch also served as a pitching coach for Arizona Diamondbacks that won the World Series in 2001. In recent years, Welch spent time as a special instructor for the A’s organization at the minor league level and visited Major League camp during spring training.
He is survived by his sons Dylan (25) and Riley (23), daughter Kelly (18) and former wife Mary Ellen.
