Dodgers News: Fox Sports Gets Rid Of Pregame And Postgame Coverage

After the Dodgers finish the regular season over the weekend, their time on Fox Sports Prime Ticket will come to an end as they’ll head over to Time Warner Cable and start their own channel.

Similar to the Lakers last season, the Dodgers channel will be called SportsNet LA as MLB finally approved the $8.5 billion deal between the two sides. However, according to Bill Shaikin of the LA Times, Fox Sports is pulling the plug on pregame and postgame coverage during the playoffs:

The decision not to do so is strictly business, according to a person familiar with Fox’s strategy but not authorized to discuss it. It would be difficult to defray production costs for pregame and postgame shows based on ad sales, the person said, because many advertisers want a package that includes commercials during the game.

TBS will air the National League playoffs and if the Dodgers were to advance to the World Series, the games would air on national Fox. Fox Sports came in second behind TWC for the rights to broadcast Dodger games as it sounds like they’re upset at how things went down.

When Shaikin reached out to people at Fox, they could only say so much about cutting back on the coverage:

We’ll be getting ready for our TV coverage of the Kings, Ducks, and Clippers, but we wish the Dodgers the best of luck in the playoffs.

Patrick O’Neal and Steve Lyons have been doing the pregame and postgame coverage for most of the year and it sounds like Dodger fans won’t see them beyond this weekend.
