Gutierrez, 33, will receive $400,000 in incentives, according to multiple sources.
The Venezuela native collected 14 home runs and 39 RBIs. The 11-year veteran hit .280/.373/.511 against left-handed pitchers in the 2016 season.
Franklin Gutierrez will join a now crowded outfield at Chavez Ravine including:
- Brett Eibner
- Andre Ethier
- Kike Hernandez
- Joc Pederson
- Yasiel Puig
- Andrew Toles
- Scott van Slyke
Will Gutierrez be the key to the Dodgers’ success against left-handed pitchers?
Dodgers News: Chase Utley Considering Four Teams, Decision Expected Soon
Made an agreement?
Okay, I get that we need hitters who can hit lh pitching. But where will we put him and Utley? The 40 man roster is full so someone has to be traded or outright released.
Van Slyke? Ethier? Two expendables.
You think they are ready to eat Ethier’s 17 million? Borderline guys like Taylor and maybe one of the pitchers more likely. They need to open 3 spots on the 40 man, Romo Utley and Gutierrez have to go somewhere. Eibner might get cut. or Ruf maybe
They did it with Kemp. I think they are still paying Manny Ramirez. Ethier is by far the worst guy left on the payroll.
Michael I just read a bunch of your posts and you certainly are right on. Most think Friedman is some kind of genius, but he acts like the money he has to spend is coming out of his own pocket. Most of the players he’s signed the last few years are total retreads or injured duds. He seems to have a penchant for injured pitchers and that makes no sense. Oh and big congrats on 60 years as a fan. I’ve been a fan since ’51 and one of my earliest memories was coming home from school in October of that year and turning on the radio and getting a recreation of Russ Hodges’ call. I started hating the Giants that day and even though I live in NorCal my hatred for them is still the same. GO BLUE!
Well I think they feel Andre is more valuable than that. Guys like Ruf, Eibner, Hatcher all seem more likely candidates for the waiver wire. And Ethier is better than all those guys.
Actually they need 2 spots because as soon as pitchers report to spring training they’ll put Yimi Garcia on the 60 day dl which will open a spot. And I agree with you, Ethier and his contract is a keeper, besides he should have a good year if he only hits against righthanders
