Dodgers News: Garcia, Kazmir Experience Injuries

Did the Los Angeles Dodgers build something on sacred ground and now the franchise is cursed to watch players get injured all season long? I don’t know, but it certainly is starting to seem like that. On Friday night in Colorado, not one but two Dodgers pitchers had to leave the game in some capacity due to injuries. It’s not exactly the news you want to hear.

Scott Kazmir, who started the game and pitched five innings, ultimately left the game because of a thumb injury that left him in a brace after the game. But the more concerning injury might be to right-handed reliever Yimi Garcia, who had to be removed from the game while on the mound because of a sore right biceps muscle. It did not look good.

Dodgers News: Urias Shines At AAA Friday Night

From J.P. Hoornstra, staff writer for the Orange County Register:

The bullpen will recover eventually, though Coors Field probably isn’t the best place to begin. Of more lasting concern is Garcia’s sore right biceps muscle. Garcia is expected to be placed on the disabled list. If so, the Dodgers were planning to fly Lee in from Triple-A to bolster their staff.

If Garcia is placed on the disabled list, then the Dodgers will lose a little bit of punch in their bullpen. Yimi Garcia wasn’t lighting the world on fire this season, but he did have a 2.79 FIP in the 8.1 innings that he had pitched so far. A biceps injury means that he’ll likely be out for a while, and a trip to the disabled list will lead to a call-up of right-hander Zach Lee.

There was also Scott Kazmir, who injured his left thumb:

Dodgers starter Scott Kazmir, who allowed four runs in five innings, also had a health concern Friday. He was wearing a brace on his sore left thumb after the game, but downplayed the injury. “It’s not an excuse,” Kazmir said of his thumb. “I didn’t execute pitches when I needed to.” Still, Roberts said the injury played a role in his decision to remove Kazmir from the game.

It doesn’t seem like anyone is really concerned about Kazmir’s injury, so that’s probably a positive to take away from all of this right now, but it’s still a little troublesome to see two pitchers get injured on the same night no matter the extent of the injuries. Hopefully both are able to get healthy soon, and we hope that neither one is too serious.

If Kazmir’s injury leads to him having to spend some time on the disabled list, it will certainly be interesting to see how the Dodgers choose to replace him in the rotation. Does this mean that Julio Urias, who pitched on Friday night at Triple-A, will be called up? No one knows, but it’s something to keep an eye on as any and all news rolls in.

  1. May be as bad as Hatcher has been he can claim he’s hurt too. Or maybe we just wish she was. Get him the hell no keep him the hell off the field he’s a detriment I can’t believe that you can’t see it that’s what pisses me off it has to come down to a pitching coach I don’t give a damn how long you been there if he can keep him in any kind of rotation in the bullpen that he must be as stupid as the damn picture amen
