Dodgers News: Gibson, Kapler, Erstad And Black Make Second Round of Interviews

We had heard that the Los Angeles Dodgers would try to whittle down their list of candidates to be the next manager down to a three by the end of this week. We’re now at the end of this week and they’ve done just that.

One name that’s been left off is fairly shocking.

This, via Jim Bowden of ESPN and relayed by J.P. Hoonstra:

It’s fairly shocking to see Kirk Gibson’s name there instead of Dave Martinez given the relationship most pointed to between Andrew Friedman and Martinez. This marks another disappointment for Martinez, who’s been passed up by several teams now to be a manager. That’s tough to see.

As far as the names on the list, it’s still hard to believe anyone has really leapfrogged Gabe Kapler to this point. Dave Roberts has reportedly impressed, though, so it’s pretty safe to say he’s the second frontrunner to Kapler.

After those two, I’d probably say Bud Black is the third favorite with Gibson as the longshot, just given their respective ideologies about the game and how they’d work with Friedman. This is still progress, though, so there’s at least that.
