Dodgers News: Grandal-Turner’s Heated Discussion, Roberts Talks 9th Inning Pitching | VIDEO

The Los Angeles Dodgers drop the series opener to the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday night as they opened up their 7-game home stand at Dodger Stadium. Scott Kazmir struggled for the Dodgers as did Casey Fien, who gave up his first run in a Dodger uniform.

The Dodgers tied the game in the bottom of the 6th, but lost on a 2-run home run by Brewers’ Jonathan Villar.

It was that crucial 6th inning that caused Justin Turner to have a heated discussion with teammate Yasmani Grandal. The argument got so heated in the dugout that teammates Adrian Gonzalez and Howie Kendrick had to seperate the two, according to Dodgers beat writer J.P. Hoornstra.

The argument came from a miscue in the bottom of the sixth inning, which led to nearly costing Turner an RBI and the Dodgers the game tying run.

As shown in the video above, Grandal was on first base and Joc Pederson was on third when Turner hit a sacrifice fly and Pederson took the opportunity to score.

Beat writer J.P. Hoornstra breaks down the play below:

Grandal was tagged out quickly and easily by Milwaukee Brewers second baseman Scooter Gennett. The Brewers challenged home plate umpire Ryan Blakney’s call that Pederson scored before Gennett tagged Grandal. The call was ultimately upheld.

“As the ball goes into second base, you’ve got to stop to just ensure the run scores,” manager Dave Roberts said. “It’s just one of those things: the ball tells you what to do.”

Following the argument with Turner in the dugout, Roberts said that was his message to Grandal after the two were separated.

“It’s part of the game,” Turner said. “It’s a long season. We’re all competitors. Sometimes you have differences of opinion.”

Grandal called his gaffe a “brain fart.” In retrospect, Grandal said, he would probably “hold off and come back” to first base after tagging up.

Both Turner and Grandal said the situation was over and spoke on how teammate blowups are rare for the Dodgers.

After the game, Roberts also talked about the decision to not send Kenley Jansen out in the 9th inning.

The Dodgers look to even the series on Friday with Julio Urias on the mound.
