Dodgers News: Greinke, Kendrick Opt for Free Agency

With news that Brett Anderson has accepted his one-year, $15.8 million qualifying offer, we also find out that Zack Greinke and Howie Kendrick have decline theirs. Both are officially free agents.

The news doesn’t come as much a surprise, given that both will probably earn longer term deals worth much more than the single year deal they would’ve signed by accepting.

ICYMI: Updated Report of Dodgers’ Managerial Search

Greinke immediately becomes the most desirable free agent on the market and Kendrick is easily near the top of any list of available second basemen.

If this is indeed the end of Greinke’s tenure with the Los Angeles Dodgers, he departs as one of the best pitchers the franchise has ever employed. He’s probably the favorite to win the Cy Young award for his incredible season and already has some hardware to show for his defensive abilities.

Other teams seriously interested in bringing in Greinke are the Chicago Cubs and the San Francisco Giants, but honestly, who wouldn’t want a pitcher of his quality.

Kendrick could very well make his way back to the Dodgers and is reportedly open to a return. The vast majority of Dodgers fans would be perfectly happy with the front office re-signing both.
