Dodgers News: Happy Birthday, Clayton Kershaw

On this day 29 years ago, arguably the best pitcher in MLB history was born.

Today is Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw’s birthday. Since his big league call-up at age 20, Kershaw has become an indelible part of the franchise and Los Angeles community.



Kershaw will start on Opening Day against the San Diego Padres. It will be his seventh-straight start of that magnitude, tying him for most in Dodgers history.

The six-time All-Star is 126-60 with a microscopic 2.37 ERA over his career. He’s led the NL in wins twice, strikeouts three times and ERA four times. He’s won three Cy Young awards and an MVP in 2014. He’s additionally won the Roberto Clemente award and a Gold Glove.

Kershaw was on pace to shatter the single-season strikeout to walk ratio in 2016 before missing over two months on the disabled list. Kershaw is fully recovered and is the consensus 2017 Cy Young favorite.

Clayton’s wife of seven years, Ellen Kershaw, has taken a large role helping the community as well. The Kershaws created “Kershaw’s Challenge,” which can be found on Twitter at @Kershschallenge.
