Dodgers News: Hyun-Jin Ryu Placed On DL, Pedro Baez Recalled

[new_royalslider id=”14″] As expected, the Los Angeles Dodgers placed Hyun-Jin Ryu on the 15-day disabled list Friday afternoon. Ryu strained his right gluteus muscle during the sixth inning of his start on Wednesday and was removed from the game.

Following the loss, Ryu and manager Don Mattingly were both hopeful the left-hander would recover in time before his next scheduled start, which was Wednesday. Potentially aiding Ryu’s cause was the Dodgers off day on Monday.

The move is retroactive to Thursday and while Ryu can return after meeting the 15-day requirement, the general sense is the Dodgers are unsure how much time the he’ll need to fully recover. Ryu later revealed he felt off prior to throwing his last pitch of the game.

This is now Ryu’s second stint on the DL this season, with the first coming at the end of April due to shoulder inflammation similar to what sidelined Clayton Kershaw.

For Pedro Baez, this is the second time he’s been called up from Triple-A Albuquerque during the month of August. Baez has thrown four innings across four appearances with the Dodgers and has a 4.50 ERA.

Along with spending time with the Dodgers, Baez has thrown for the Isotopes and Double-A Chattanooga this season. He’s a combined 2-1 with a 3.86 ERA in 40 appearances at the Minor League level this season.

With Baez joining the Dodgers, it clears a roster spot on the Isotopes for newly acquired Justin Germano to easily join Albuquerque.
