Dodgers News: Hyun-Jin Ryu Placed On DL With Shoulder Inflammation

[new_royalslider id=”14″] The Los Angeles Dodgers may be days away from adding Clayton Kershaw back to the rotation, but the injury bug has now turned its attention on another left-handed starter.

According to the team’s official Twitter account, Hyun-Jin Ryu was placed on the disabled list retroactive to April 28:

Ken Gurnick reports the injury isn’t believed to be serious:

Ryu has started seven games this season and holds a 3-2 record with a 3.00 ERA. With Clayton Kershaw being placed on the DL after his first start of the season, Ryu filled in to start the U.S. opener and Dodger Stadium opener, on the heels of starting the second game of the Opening Series in Australia. It’s conceivable the stretch of games, which the Dodgers were reluctant to start Kershaw in had he been healthy, could have contributed to Ryu’s trouble with his shoulder.

Ryu’s last start, which came on April 27, was a rough outing for the normally dependable left-hander. In just 5.0 innings of work, Ryu allowed five runs on nine hits in a 6-1 loss to the Colorado Rockies. In his second start of the season, Ryu admitted to telling manager Don Mattingly he felt fatigued and suggested that he be removed from the game after the seventh inning.

Fortunately for the Dodgers, Josh Beckett and Dan Haren appear to be solid back of the rotation starters. Kershaw appears to be on track to start in the series against the Washignton Nationals, who with Zack Greinke, will give the Dodgers a more than formidable one-two punch. Ryu will be eligible to be reinstated from the DL on May 13, when the Dodgers will again be playing a series with the Miami Marlins.
