Dodgers News: Hyun-Jin Ryu Still On Track To Start Game 3 Sunday
The Dodgers had a golden opportunity to take a 2-0 series lead in Game 2, but three double plays and a blown call at second base in the 9th inning sealed their fate.
Game 3 will take place at Dodger Stadium at 5:37 PM PST as Hyun-Jin Ryu will go up against fellow rookie Julio Teheran as the Dodgers look to take a 2-1 series lead.
However, Ken Gurnick of Dodgers.com reported that Ryu threw a bullpen session today, something he never does between starts:
For example, Ryu worked out this week with a compression sleeve on his left elbow. He also threw a bullpen session Friday with team surgeon Neal ElAttrache, medical director Stan Conte and manager Don Mattingly watching.
Ryu dealt with back stiffness towards the end of the season and with such a wide lead in the NL West, the Dodgers were able to push him back a couple days. Despite the back issues, Ryu made 10 starts and posted a 2.61 ERA in August and 2.88 ERA in September.
Ricky Nolasco is slated to pitch Game 4 and the addition of Chris Capuano on the roster is extra insurance if for some reason Ryu can’t go on Sunday.
Having the 26-year-old rookie pitch at home is an advantage on paper as he’s 7-4 with a 2.32 ERA in 15 starts and he defeated the Braves back in early June. Tim Federowicz caught Ryu’s bullpen session and told Jon Morosi of FoxSports.com that he looked good:
Tim Federowicz caught Hyun-Jin Ryu’s bullpen session Friday. “Everything looked good, all the stuff was crisp,” Federowicz said. @FOXSports1

The Dodgers and Braves will workout tomorrow at Dodger Stadium, but it sounds like Ryu is still on track to make his scheduled start in Game 3.
