Dodgers News: Hyun-Jin Ryu To Start Wednesday Vs. New York Mets

[new_royalslider id=”14″] With injuries to multiple pitchers at various points dating back to Spring Training, the Los Angeles Dodgers have yet to see their starting rotation at full strength. Clayton Kershaw managed just one start before being placed on the disabled list and Josh Beckett began the season on the DL before making his debut on April 9.

Hyun-Jin Ryu was the latest Dodger pitcher to land on the DL, in a move that was made on May 2, but retroactive to April 28. After some rest, a bullpen session, and most recently a simulated game at Camelback Ranch, Ryu is set to be reinstated from the DL for a start against the New York Mets on Wednesday, reports Ken Gurnick of Dodgers.com:

Ryu is 3-2 with a 3.00 ERA through seven starts this season. The left-hander made four starts of at least six innings before struggling against the Colorado Rockies on April 27, allowing six runs in five innings.

With Ryu’s pending return, it spells the end of Paul Maholm’s time in the starting rotation. Maholm has made seven starts, plus three relief appearances and is 1-4 with a 5.40 ERA. The Dodgers starting staff has otherwise been solid with unexpected production from Josh Beckett and Dan Haren.

Combined with Zack Greinke, the trio of right-handers are 13-3 this season. Assuming the Dodgers make it to Wednesday without further injury, it may very well be the healthiest they’ve been all season.
