The Dodgers said they didn’t anticipate Joc Pederson hitting the DL. The Dodgers were either playing coy or miscalculated.

Pederson has beenĀ placed on the 7-day DL for a concussion. Kenta Maeda has filledĀ his roster spot and starts Thursday against St. Louis.

Pederson had a violent collision with Yasiel Puig in the 10th inning of Tuesday’s win. Dave Roberts said Pederson would be sidelined a few days, but the DL wasn’t likely.

With Maeda returning, it makes sense to place Pederson on the DL and save an active spot. It’s also possible the team wanted to be extra careful with him.
