After airing out some frustration following what he believed to be a quick hook and later clearing the air with Los Angeles Dodgers manger Don Mattingly, Mat Latos was scheduled for another start despite having some struggles in yet another outing.

Heading into the Sept. 3 start against the San Diego Padres, there was presumed pressure on Latos to improve on what he’d thus far given the Dodgers as the club had replacements available given the expanded rosters.

Latos allowed four runs on eight hits in four innings, and was set to face the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on Wednesday in the finale of the three-game series. However, the Dodgers announced Latos was scratched due neck stiffness and will instead hand the ball over to Joe Wieland for his ninth career start in the Majors, and second with Los Angeles.

He debuted with the Dodgers May 6 and was pushed around by the Milwaukee Brewers to the tune of six runs on six hits in 4.2 innings. Wieland fared much better with Triple-A Oklahoma City this season, going 10-5 with a 4.59 ERA, 1.41 WHIP, and 92 strikeouts to 25 walks in 113.2 innings pitched over 22 games (21 starts).

Wieland was among the players the Dodgers called up on Sept. 1 and he last pitched Aug. 26 for OKC. Wednesday marks Wieland’s first time facing the Angels. He’s a lifetime 1-5 with a 5.98 ERA, 5.84 FIP and 1.51 WHIP over 10 games (eight starts) in the Majors.

    1. So should the two front office dicks that brought into the club. What good have they done

      1. …And former Padre G.M. now one of the Dodgers new “Front Office Weasels” Should also be included as one those “DIcks” ! ,and throw in Stan Kasten as well !

      2. They’ve created a team that has been in first place for the majority of the season. This team looks like they’ll go to the playoffs for the third year in a row for the first time ever, putting away the Giants in the process. They also stand a good chance of winning more games than last seasons team. They’ve rebuilt the farm system. They’ve created enough depth that not only is LA going to the postseason, but look like real contenders DESPITE the ridiculous amount of injuries to key players all season. I could go on…
Your comment must be a joke. There were plenty of people on here before the season and early on trashing all the moves the FO made and predicting doom and gloom for this season. They’ve since shut up….guess being wrong tends to do that to people.

        1. We already had the bulk of our team the only thing they added was a bunch of salaries and second rate players. There a couple of boobs need to be gone
