Dodgers News: Jonathan Papelbon Lists Team on No-Trade List

Let’s try again.

For those looking for a closer on the trade market whose value has been tanked into almost oblivion, look no further than Jonathan Papelbon.

To make things even more difficult than his literally choking teammate Bryce Harper and his insane salary, he has a no-trade clause requiring his allowing trades to certain teams.

Jerry Crasnick of ESPN reported details of the list:

A provision in Papelbon’s contract allows him to submit an annual list of 17 teams to which he can’t be traded without his consent. ESPN has obtained Papelbon’s no-trade list for 2015, and it includes the following 17 clubs where he can block a deal: Arizona Diamondbacks, Baltimore Orioles, Cleveland Indians,Colorado Rockies, Chicago White Sox, Detroit Tigers, Los Angeles Dodgers, Miami Marlins, Milwaukee Brewers, Minnesota Twins, New York Yankees, Oakland Athletics, Philadelphia Phillies, Pittsburgh Pirates, San Francisco Giants, Texas Rangers and Toronto Blue Jays.

The news is hardly notable, as the Dodgers would have to be pretty desperate to add Papelbon to what some consider a touchy clubhouse. Not to mention the tension first-time manager Dave Roberts would have to deal with as Papelbon would almost definitely clash with Kenley Jansen as the two pitchers fight for the closer role.

Aroldis Chapman might have similarly clashed but there was at least a chance he and Jansen could work out how the two would function in similar roles. With Papelbon, there is a recent history of his frustration at not being named the closer.

Papelbon hasn’t made any headlines remotely resembling positive since his run in Boston, clashing with teammates and fans alike. There’s always the whole “maybe a change of scenery could do him some good” angle, but it feels highly unlikely with his Papelbon. In this case, the Dodgers are probably perfectly fine being named on his list.

  2. Interesting that  there are no contenders on his list if 17. He has always said he wants to play on a real contender. These front office jerks arre so stunned they will probably try to change his mind and get him cheap!!!!
