Dodgers News: Jose De Leon Has Been Called Up

Dodger fans have been obsessing over our rookies this season. Corey Seager is currently looking the like the National League Rookie of the Year, and for good reason too! Julio Urias, though shaky at first, has been very dominant recently, especially against the Cubs. The list goes on, but one name that has not been able to leave the conversation is Jose De Leon. “Where is Jose De Leon?!” Well, he is actually headed to Los Angeles!

On Friday, Bill Shalkin announced that the Dodgers have called up Jose De Leon! The 24-year old is set to start Sunday for the boys in blue!

The starting pitcher has been absolutely dominant this season with OKC, the Triple-A affiliate of the Dodgers. In 16 games started, De Leon has accumulated a 2.61 ERA with 7 wins and 1 loss. In 86.1 innings, De Leon has 111 strikeouts and only 20 walks!

For the entire 2nd half, through so many starting pitching injuries, fans have been begging to see Jose De Leon in the big leagues. It seems as though the plan all along was to let him grow as much as possible with OKC so that he can be a fresh, dominant arm in September and October. Regardless of the real reasoning why the front office decided against calling him up until now, he is here, and he will take the mound at Dodger Stadium on Sunday!
