After waiting for over a week for a decision from free agent third baseman Juan Uribe, the Los Angeles Dodgers and the 34-year-old agreed to a two-year contract Saturday.

Uribe, who had a bounce back season in 2013, reportedly wanted a two year commitment while it was reported that the Dodgers were only willing to do one-year plus an option for 2015. However, after a lot of back-and-forth, it sounds like the two sides have reached agreement according to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports:

Terms of the deal have yet to be released, but the signing signals that Hanley Ramirez will stay at shortstop while newly signed infielder Alexander Guerrero will start at second base. If Uribe didn’t re-sign, there was talk of Guerrero playing his natural position, shortstop, while Ramirez would slide over to third base.

After two awful seasons with the Dodgers, Uribe hit .278 with 12 home runs and 50 RBI as he provided solid defense and leadership in the clubhouse. It was also reported this morning that Ned Colletti believed that Uribe was moving on and Michael Young might be the answer as the everyday third baseman.

According to Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register, here are the terms of the two years:

Of all the other third baseman on the market, Uribe was the best option for the Dodgers and while an option on the second year would’ve been ideal, Colletti and company made the best move possible.  Regardless, it’s a great move by the Dodgers in solidifying the infield and also keeping the chemistry that was built last season continue.
