Dodgers News: Justin Sellers Traded To Cleveland Indians For Cash

The Los Angeles Dodgers came into Spring Training with a battle for the starting second base job along with roles to fill on the bench since infielders Nick Punto, Skip Schumaker, Mark Ellis and Jerry Hairston Jr. all moved on. One of those players looking for a spot with the club was infielder Justin Sellers.

Sellers was the starting shortstop last season when Hanley Ramirez was dealing with a thumb injury, but his inability to hit landed him with Triple A Albuquerque. Designated for assignment after the Erisbel Arruebarrena signing, Sellers was traded this morning according to Jon Morosi of Fox Sports:

From the sound of things, the 27-year-old infielder was never a candidate to start at second base or land a spot on the bench as his glove was the only thing keeping him with the team. In his three year big league career thus far, Sellers is hitting .199/.278/.301 with three home runs, 17 RBI and 13 doubles, but does have a .981 fielding percentage.

The Dodgers are still deciding who’ll be their Opening Day second baseman, with reports last night suggesting it’ll be Dee Gordon over Alex Guerrero.
