Dodgers News: Justin Turner and Kenley Jansen Reject Qualifying Offers
Last week the Dodgers exetneded qualifying offers to both Kenley Jansen and Justin Turner. The offer was $17.2 million for one year; however, players rarely accept qualifying offers.
On Monday, Jon Heyman of Today’s Knuckleball tweeted out saying that both Dodgers declined the qualifying offer.

This should come as no surprise since both players are expected to earn a hefty contract this off-season, and both deserve it.
In 2016, Jansen posted a 1.83 ERA, with 47 saves and 104 strikeouts.

With the free agent market being as scarce as it is this year, it would be ridiculous for Jansen and Turner not to reject these qualifying offers. Hopefully the front office can work out a deal to bring these two key components to the Dodgers back to Los Angeles!

QO is really a system setup to compensate the home team for losing a star player, not something that benefits the player. The only reason a player would accept a QO is if he feels the FA market is much more promising next year, like Brett Anderson did. It’s an unbelievable gamble on player’s part, and it’s a bet that Brett Anderson lost when he got injured last year. In fact, the QO can hurt a marginal star player like Howie Kendrick when no team wanted to give up their first draft pick to home team to sign him. This year for the Dodgers, it must be tempting to get 2 high draft picks for Jansen and Turner, especially since there are reasonable alternatives like Melancon or Wade Davis via trade and Longoria or Frazier via trade. Would not be surprised if the FA let them both walk if the bidding goes for longer than 3-4 year contract.
