Dodgers News: Kemp Admits Cardinals Were The ‘Better Team’

The Los Angeles Dodgers and St. Louis Cardinals are no strangers having met in last year’s NLCS and playing each other seven times during the regular season. Tuesday saw the Dodgers’ season come to an end following Game 4’s 3-2 loss.

After the game, Matt Kemp shared his disappointment with the season’s outcome while conceding the Cardinals had the Dodgers’ number throughout the series via MLB.com’s Ken Gurnick:

They just have a good team, man,” Kemp said. “They get the big hit when they need it. Everything worked in their favor. Any time you lose in the playoffs you know your season is over and it’s tough to swallow. We just came up short. They were the better team.”

The majority of games were closely contested with a single swing changing the outcomes. In all three of the Cardinals’ wins, their timely hitting came during the seventh inning. Game 1 saw them scoring eight runs to take a commanding 10-6 lead.

Kolten Wong hit then a home run in the seventh inning of Game 3 to break a 1-1 tie, and Matt Adams capped off their success with a three-run, go-ahead home run Tuesday.

The Dodgers had opportunities late in each game but couldn’t deliver. Yasiel Puig struck out with the tying run 90 feet away to end Game 1 and the Dodgers had two runners on base when A.J. Ellis hit into Game 3’s final out.

In Game 4, Puig came in as a pinch-runner represented the tying run at second base, only to be stranded when Carl Crawford ended the game with a ground out.

For the second straight year, the Cardinals have gotten the best of the Dodgers during the postseason. With their advancement, the Cardinals reached their fourth consecutive NLCS and 13th overall.

As for the Dodgers, they enter the off-season amid several questions. There are rumors of changes coming in the front office and they face multiple free agency decisions, namely Hanley Ramirez.

It was reported Wednesday Brian Wilson informed the team he would exercise his player option for 2015.
