Dodgers News: Kevin Correia Activated; Pedro Baez Optioned

[new_royalslider id=”280″] On Saturday night, the Los Angeles Dodgers acquired right-hander Kevin Correia from the Minnesota Twins in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

Manager Don Mattingly announced on Sunday that the Southern California native will make his first start for the Dodgers on Monday in Atlanta. Correia is being given the spot start in order to give the other five starters an extra day of rest for the stretch run.

In order for Correia to pitch, the Dodgers had to make a move and they announced that moved via their official Twitter account:

Baez was recalled less than a week ago when left-hander Paco Rodriguez was placed on the disabled list. The right-hander threw two scoreless innings while striking out one. Overall in 2014, Baez has appeared in four games, throwing four innings and allowing two runs.

Correia will be making his first start for his new team after making 23 starts for the Twins. On the year, the right-hander is 5-13 with a 4.94 ERA. Correia is making his return to the National League West, having spent six years with the San Francisco Giants and two years with the San Diego Padres. Upon hearing of the trade, the 33-year-old expressed his excitement to join a team in a pennant race. He also believed his time in the NL West would benefit him because of the familiarity.

The Dodgers already had a recent acquisition make a start for them in Roberto Hernandez, who threw six innings and allowed two runs in a no-decision on Friday in Milwaukee. If the Dodgers can receive a similar start from Correia, it would be the start of a successful deal.

  1. I was recently in Sapporo, Japan and their baseball team “Fighters” has a rookie by the name of Ohtani, who’s fastball was clocked at 100 mph. He also is a good hitter. Saw him hit a HR. Dodger should look at him as a prospect.
