Dodgers News: L.A. Reliever Adam Liberatore to Undergo Left Elbow Surgery

Los Angeles Dodgers reliever Adam Liberatore will undergo left elbow surgery on Tuesday in Los Angeles. The arthroscopic debridement procedure will end his chances of pitching in the postseason. The procedure will be performed by the team physician Dr. Neal ElAttrache. Liberatore is done for the year but is expected to be ready by the beginning of next season.

The 29-year-old had an impressive first half of the season and finished the season with a 3.38 ERA and 42.2 innings pitched. He pitched 9.9 strikeouts per 9 innings and set a franchise record with 28 straight scoreless appearances.

Earlier in the season, Liberatore lost his spot in the bullpen to rookie Grant Dayton. In 25 games, Dayton has posted a 0-1 record but has an ERA of 2.05.

Liberatore’s surgery is similar to Hyun-Jin Ryu and Alex Wood. Ryu underwent surgery Wednesday, Sept. 28. ElAttrache performed two elbow surgeries for Ryu with the first coming in 2015. Ryu is expected to miss the remainder of the season as well.

The Dodgers now have a limited numbers of lefties in the bullpen:

  • Julio Urias
  • Alex Wood
  • Luis Avilan
  • Brett Anderson
  • J.P. Howell
  • Grant Dayton
