Dodgers News: L.A. “Increasingly Confident” They’ll Acquire SP

The Dodgers have been rumored to be involved in just about every available arm on the market during this trade deadline season.

It is what everyone should expect given the fact that their bullpen is in need of one last arm to put the team over the top and the thought of having some insurance for Clayton Kershaw by acquiring a starting pitcher is something that most of the fans want to see.

Jon Morosi of MLB Network and Fox Sports has reported that the Dodgers are now increasingly confident that they will acquire one of Yu Darvish, Sonny Gray, or Justin Verlander before the trade deadline ends.

Darvish, Gray and Verlander are to be known as the big three of the 2017 trade deadline and the Dodgers have reportedly been heavily involved with them for weeks.

All three players are in drastically different contract situations. Darvish is a rental and then becomes a free agent immediately after the 2017 season. Sonny Gray is only making $3.575 MM in 2017 and is under contract for both the 2018 and 2019 seasons after that. Justin Verlander is due $78 MM over the rest of his contract that goes through the 2020 season.

Morosi also reported that the Dodgers have been more heavily involved in Yu Darvish and Sonny Gray, which makes sense in their attempt to dodge the monster contract that is attached to Justin Verlander.

No matter who they choose from those three, they all have a chance of improving the Dodgers during the rest of this 2017 season.
