Dodgers News: Los Angeles Will Sign Sergio Romo Pending Physical

This time it’s for real (we think): Sergio Romo will be a Dodger.

Ken Rosenthal reports the Dodgers will add Romo pending his physical.

The Dodgers prioritzed adding a bullpen arm after trading for Logan Forsythe. Romo, who despite his Giants career grew up rooting for the blue, is expected to serve as the setup man to Kenley Jansen.

Romo said a week ago he values comfort, so a return to his native Southern California makes sense.

A flexor strain kept Romo out of action for two months last season, resulting in his career-low innings (30.2) and games (40). If Romo can stay healthy and regain somewhat of his old form, the signing could turn out to be one of the Dodgers’ better moves with spring training less than three weeks away.

The Dodgers-Giants rivalry will take on another new dynamic with three-time champion Romo headed to L.A. The teams will go head-to-head 10 times in the first seven weeks of the season.

The Dodgers have no shortage of pitching depth

One Comment

  1. The last time the Dodgers signed away an injured Giants former closer it turned out to be Brian Wilson who was amazing in year 1, got a big contract for year 2 and subsequently broke down. If we can get one good year from Romo next year and make it to the World Series this signing will be worth it.
