Dodgers News: Mark McGwire Talks Matt Kemp, Alex Guerrero & Puig

Mark McGwireNew to the Los Angeles Dodgers coach staff last season was hitting coach Mark McGwire, who left the St. Louis Cardinals organization. Under his guidance, the Dodgers offense ranked 17th in runs scored, but were sixth in baseball in batting average.

Injuries had a profound effect on the Dodgers as they were without sluggers Matt Kemp, Hanley Ramirez and Andre Ethier at various points during the season. However, heading into the 2014 season, Kemp seems like he’s on the right path to recovery after ankle and shoulder surgeries while Ramirez and Ethier are deemed 100 percent with Spring Training right around the corner.



New to the Dodgers offense this season is Cuban infielder Alex Guerrero, who signed a four-year, $28 million contract in October. GM Ned Colletti and President Stan Kasten both believe that the 27-year-old infielder will be a plus-offensive player at the big league level.  While pitchers and catchers report to Camelback Ranch in just six days, Guerrero is already in Arizona as he tries to transition from years as a shortstop to second base.

This morning, McGwire was on SiriusXM Radio with former GM’s Jim Bowden and Jim Duquette and talked about what he’s seen from Kemp, Guerrero and Yasiel Puig. Here’s what the Dodgers hitting coach had to say about the trio:
