Dodgers News: Mat Latos’ Next Start Not Scheduled As Of Now

It appears as if the Mat Latos experiment has come to an end in Los Angeles, at least for now.

According to ESPN LA’s Mark Saxon, Dodgers manager Don Mattingly will use other pitchers to fill in the back end of the rotation:

Latos was scheduled to start Wednesday night against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, but was a late scratch due to neck stiffness. Instead, Joe Wieland got the start and went four innings allowing two runs on four hits in a Dodgers loss.

The Dodgers acquired Latos in a 13-player trade on July 30. Along with Alex Wood, the 27-year-old was expected to solidify the back end of the rotation. However, after a solid debut on August 2, Latos struggled to pitch well enough to stay in the rotation. Overall with the Dodgers, the right-hander is 0-2 with a 6.56 ERA, 3.66 FIP, and a 1.54 WHIP, while pitching 4.2 innings or less in four of his five starts.

After another short start where Latos allowed four quick runs, the Virginia native made headlines for his comments after the game. Latos felt like he was on a “quick leash”, referring to Mattingly’s decision to take him out after just the fourth inning. It appeared as if the two cleared the hostility in the air as Latos was scheduled to start Wednesday night. It is unknown if those comments had anything to do with the decision to remove Latos from the rotation.

With Latos out, right-hander Mike Bolsinger is tentatively penciled as the fifth starter, as he is slated to start Saturday against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

  1. Latos stating for the Dodgers is always a disaster waiting to happen. Get rid of this guy and replaced him with Bolsinger
