Dodgers News: Matt Kemp At Step Five Of Seven Step Rehab Plan

The Los Angeles Dodgers have already played in three Spring Training games and with the calendar flipping to March, actual regular season games will be played this month.

However, outfielder Matt Kemp hasn’t appeared in a game and has been relegated to hitting in the cages and taking ground balls in the outfield. Yesterday, the 29-year-old outfielder underwent an MRI and after the doctor reviewed the results, Kemp got good news according to Ken Gurnick of Dodgers.com:

Kemp injured his ankle during the first series of the All Star break last July and after coming back in early September, he was shut down on the last day of the season. Since his runner-up in the 2011 MVP race, Kemp has been riddled by injuries, playing in only 179 combined games since then.

With four outfielders for three spots, the Dodgers are in a favorable position and Kemp himself said he won’t come back until he’s 100 percent. Not only has the ankle been a problem, but the two-time All Star underwent a cleanup procedure in his left shoulder and hasn’t felt any ill effects from it.

The Dodgers will take on the Arizona Diamondbacks on March 22-23 in Australia, but with the slow progression in his rehab, there’s no chance he’ll be in center field that early. Andre Ethier has filled in admirably for him while Carl Crawford, who’s been slowed by a tight quad, is back in the lineup this afternoon.

While the MRI results don’t clear the picture up much for Kemp, thankfully he hasn’t had a setback and hopefully will be able to ramp up his rehab to get back onto the field as soon as possible.
