Dodgers News: Matt Kemp Pledges $1,000 Per Home Run To OKC Relief

Monday was a bittersweet day for Dodgers star center fielder Matt Kemp as he notched his second home run of the season, but also saw horrifying images of his hometown ravaged by a tornado.

Kemp hit an 87 mph change-up off Brewers starter Yovani Gallardo and after the game he had a special message for the people of Oklahoma City via his personal Twitter account:

The latest gesture from Kemp comes days after a video showed him giving away his jersey, cleats and hat to a terminally ill child in San Francisco.

It’s been reported by CNN.com that 51 people have been killed and 145 injured by the devastating tornado that ravaged through Oklahoma City.

While 2013 has been a struggle so far for Kemp on the field, his humanitarian actions are welcomed and it’s great to see professional athletes give back in times of crisis and needs.

Today’s home run snapped a streak of 97 consecutive plate appearances without a home run as Kemp had off-season shoulder surgery that has sapped some of his power. With their win today, the Dodgers improved to 18-25 and with 51 games remaning before the All-Star lets hope Kemp hits home runs for the Dodgers and Oklahoma City.
