Dodgers News: Matt Magill Traded To Reds For Chris Heisey

[new_royalslider id=”349″] One of the things the Los Angeles Dodgers are looking to do this offseason is rid themselves of at least one outfielder to create some space and less tension.

Andre Ethier, Matt Kemp and Carl Crawford are all being shopped, although it appears the team would like to trade Ethier if they can. Yasiel Puig has essentially been deemed untouchable, while Scott Van Slyke and Joc Pederson could find themselves gone if the price is right. The Dodgers new front office has yet to make a splash by trade or free agency, but they did make a move that seems to go against their offseason plan.

According to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, the Dodgers have acquired another outfielder:

Heisey has spent the past five years with the Cincinnati Reds and hit .222 with eight home runs and 22 RBIs in 119 games. The 29-year-old, who throws and bats right-handed, started 55 games for the Reds in 2014. He peaked in terms of power in 2011 when he hit .254 with 18 home runs and 50 RBIs. Heisey is an above-average outfielder, worth 17 Defensive Runs Saved over his career.

Magill made six starts for the Dodgers in 2013, but stayed in Triple-A last season. With the Albuquerque Isotopes, the right-hander went 7-6 with a 5.21 ERA in 36 games (12 starts). He struck out 70 batters in 84.2 innings. In his six starts in the big leagues, Magill gave up 25 runs in 27.2 innings and walked 28 batters. He was left off the 40-man roster this winter.

It’s unclear what role Heisey will play with the Dodgers, but it could lead to other deals this winter.

    1. excuse me Heisey is not a minor leaguer…he has been with the Reds the last 5 years…he hit .222 last year with 8 HR’s…..that beng said..this move makes no sense

  1. an other of friedmans brilliant trades.why another outfielder? when is he going to get what we need?he hasn’t done any improving on the team as I can see. this isn’t important. didn’t even tender a contract to a j ellis now what ,going to get a has been catcher.a j ellis hit 255 his first to seasons.one injury season doesn’t make a carrer.trading kemp bad idea.

  2. Please tell that have a major move up there sleeve because so far the new GM is worst than Colletti
