Dodgers News: Mattingly Admits To Misleading Reporters About Injuries
To say that Dodgers manager Don Mattingly has been right about the injuries this season would be a flat out lie. It’s no secret that the Dodgers have had some of the worst injuries in baseball as Zack Greinke, Matt Kemp (multiple times) Carl Crawford (multiple times) and Hanley Ramirez have all been on the DL for significant portions of the season.
However, Mattingly hasn’t been especially forthcoming as he’s said multiple times that the injured players wouldn’t be missing a significant amount of time, to only find out they would.
Dylan Hernandez of the LA Times shed some light on Mattingly’s truthfulness with the media about the Dodgers injuries:
The only definitive statement Mattingly made about Ramirez’s shoulder was that it wasn’t dislocated. Mattingly, who has acknowledged intentionally misleading reporters about the severity of injuries, wouldn’t say whether he thought Ramirez was headed back to the disabled list.
When Kemp injured his ankle in Washington, Mattingly said the injury wouldn’t be too bad to only find out that he’s been lost until the beginning of September.
Hanley’s injury is most concerning as the Dodgers don’t have a bat on the bench to replace his production as he’s been arguably the Dodgers best hitter since he’s returned to the lineup.
Ramirez will undergo an MRI this afternoon as the Dodgers look to extend their franchise record 14-game road winning streak against the Cardinals.
